Memorial Day, which is observed on the last Monday of May, commemorates the men and women who died while in the military service. In observance of the holiday, many people visit cemeteries and memorials, and volunteers often place American flags on each grave site at national cemeteries. A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3:00 p.m. local time. Remember the brave hearts who serve our nation. Do not be afraid to keep them in your prayers. Have a Blessed Memorial Day.

On Friday May 15th and Saturday May 16th, 2015, the St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy’s Drama Club presented a great musical "High School Musical". 30 students of the Academy took part in that production under the direction of Ms. Helen Kazes and Mr. Adrian Casiano. The final song of the musical can be a motto for us all:
You are invited to the SHOW!!! Every year it has been a great performance! We believe that this year show will be even better. Please join us for the wonderful evening!
Zapraszamy na przedstawienie KOŁA TEATRALNEGO uczniów Katolickiej Akademii Sw. Stanisława Kostki. Każdego roku były to wspaniałe przedstawienia.
The Feast of the Ascension remains a Holy Day of Obligation throughout the United States The day on which it is celebrated, however, varies. The 40th day after Easter Sunday is always a Thursday, and the feast has traditionally been celebrated on that Thursday. However, because attendance at Ascension Thursday Masses had been falling for years, the bishops of the United States, in accordance with canon law, petitioned the Vatican to allow the celebration to be transferred to the following Sunday. The Vatican agreed. Today, only the ecclesiastical provinces of Boston, Hartford, New York, Newark, Philadelphia, and Omaha (the state of Nebraska) continue to celebrate the Ascension of Our Lord on Thursday. The faithful in those provinces (an ecclesiastical province is basically one large archdiocese and the dioceses that are historically associated with it) are required, under the Precepts of the Church, to attend Mass on Ascension Thursday. In the rest of the dioceses of the United States, the celebration of the Ascension has been transferred to the following Sunday (the 43rd day after Easter). That does not mean, however, that the Ascension is no longer a Holy Day of Obligation in those dioceses. Under the Precepts of the Church, every Sunday is a Holy Day of Obligation. Because attendance at Mass on a holy day is obligatory (under pain of mortal sin), if you have any doubts about whether you live in one of the provinces that celebrates the Ascension on Thursday, you should check with your parish priest or diocesan office.
On this special occasion devoted to Mothers, all Masses are celebrated today in the intention of those Mothers whose names were provided on remembrances. We extend our best wishes to all Mothers and pray that the Mother of God will help You get the many Graces needed to carry out your tasks of daily life. For all deceased Mothers we ask that, through the intercession of Mary, they know the joys of eternal life in heaven.

The Polish Community in New York celebrates today the “May 3rd Constitution Day”. May 3rd Constitution was the FIRST written democratic constitution in Europe, and the world’s second, after the United States Constitution. The May 3rd Constitution was adopted by the Sejm of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth on May 3, 1791. We are proud of our heritage.
After the Solemn Mass at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with participation of the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in New York, Ms Urszula Gacek, the special Academy was held at the Polish National Home on Driggs Ave in Greenpoint.
Adoption of the Polish Constitution of May 3, 1791. The painting depicts King Stanislaus Augustus together with members of the Grand Sejm and inhabitants of Warsaw entering St John’s Cathedral in order to swear in the new national constitution just after it had been adopted by the Grand Sejm in the Royal Castle visible in the background.
One of the Catholic practices is the dedication of May as the month of the Blessed Virgin Mary. May crownings and other special events in May in honor of Mary, such as public recitation of the rosary and singing of the Loreto Litany are communal events. We can take the month of May as an opportunity to renew our own devotion to the Mother of God by dusting off our rosaries and adding a few more Marian prayers to our daily routine. Parents, in particular, should encourage Marian devotion in their children, since the non-Catholic Christians they encounter today often downplay (if not denigrate) the role that the Blessed Virgin played in our salvation through her fiat–her joyous "Yes" to the will of God.
The girls, led by two altar servers, processed around the church to the statue standing on the altar. Each girl placed a carnation in the vase standing before the statue with the last girl crowning the statue. During the ceremony our children’s choir sang beautifully songs dedicated to the Blessed Mother including Immaculate Mary and Gentle Woman. The ceremony was a very special way through which everyone at the Mass could begin honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus. We will continue our devotion to Mary each Monday at 6:30pm before the Mass and Novena to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in English language and after the 7 PM mass Tuesday through Friday in Polish language.
