Mass for the Unborn

u1Mass for the Unborn sponsored by the Knights of Columbus was celebrated at St Stanislaus Kostka church in Brooklyn on Saturday, March 25th, 2017 on the Solemnity of Annunciation. This day is  know also as The International Day of the Unborn Child.

First officially celebrated in Argentina in 1999 under the Pontificate of Pope John Paul II, this day is a celebration of the value and dignity of every human person from the moment of conception, as well as a day of remembrance for those unborn children who have lost their lives to the violence of abortion.

The Holy Father linked this day to the feast of the Annunciation to honor the day when God was conceived and became an unborn child in the womb of Our Blessed Mother. Though celebrated in conjunction with the feast of the Annunciation, the Day of the Unborn Child is not an exclusively Catholic or Christian event. Any pro-life group, whether affiliated with a faith or not, is welcome and encouraged to participate in local events or form their own events to celebrate human life. (więcej / read more)

Annunciation Solemnity

annunc2 AnnunciationToday, March 25, 2017, our parish community prayed together with the Knights of Columbus during special 11 AM mass and pro-life observances on this Solemnity of the Annunciation.

The Knights of Columbus observe the Feast of the Annunciation as the “International Day of the Unborn Child. This day is also called a “Day of the Right to Be Born”.

March 25, which is nine months before the celebration of the Birth of Christ, is the Annunciation, when Jesus was conceived within the body of the Virgin Mary as she accepted her call to be the Mother of God.
Priests for Life, along with Knights of Columbus and many other pro-life groups, urges believers to celebrate this day as a Day of the Unborn Child, with special observances that highlight the Church’s pro-life teachings. (więcej / read more)

LENT …

lent6 Lenten Regulations 2017

The penitential and grace filled season of Lent begins with the celebration of Ash Wednesday, which this year falls on March 1, 2017. It is a season that urgently calls us to conversion and is a time for deepening our spiritual life, most especially through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, in his Lenten message for 2017, encourages us to see God’s Word as a gift and other persons as a gift. He writes: “Lent is the favorable season for renewing our encounter with Christ, living in his word, in the sacraments, and in our neighbor. The Lord, who overcame the deceptions of the Tempter during the forty days in the desert, shows us the path we must take. May the Holy Spirit lead us on a true journey of conversion, so that we can rediscover the gift of God’s word, be purified of the sin that blinds us, and serve Christ present in our brothers and sisters in need.”

In keeping with Pope Francis’ exhortation, our Diocesan Bishop, Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, in order to assist the faithful of the Diocese of Brooklyn to take full advantage of the Lenten season, would like to remind us of the following:

ABSTINENCE – All the faithful who have reached 14 years of age are required to abstain totally from meat on Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent. (więcej / read more)

400th Anniversary

svdp400-2  In 2017, the Church, and more specifically, the Vincentian Family, will celebrate the 400th anniversary of the birth of the Vincentian charism.

A Mass of thanksgiving will be celebrated by the priests of the New England Province of the Congregation of the Mission in Manchester, CT on January 25th. On Sunday, January 29th, a Mass of thanksgiving will be celebrated in our Church.

It is important to mention that the first Vincentians came to the United States 200 years ago, and since the year 1921 have served the people of our parish.

The celebration of this 400th anniversary is an opportune time to recreate Vincent’s spiritual experience. Vincent had a profound encounter with Jesus that changed his life. (więcej / read more)
