Opening Mass – SSK Catholic Academy

As the first school year begins for the newly formed St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy, we have begun the new school year with a solemn, concelebrated Mass which is the main celebration of our faith. On Friday, September 10th, 2010 at 8:30 AM, the opening Mass was celebrated by Bishop Frank Caggiano with many priests concelebrating the Eucharist. Among them were four pastors of the parishes assigned to the new Academy and members of the Board of Members of the Academy: Rev. Robert Czok from St. Anthony/St. Alphonsus parish, Rev. Wlodzimierz Las SDS, from Our Lady of Consolation parish, Rev. Tadeusz Maciejewski CM from St. Cyril and Methodious parish and Rev. Marek Sobczak CM, from St. Stanislaus Kostka parish.

Bishop Caggiano addressed the students with words of encouragement and asked them to do their best as students of a Catholic school. Also, Rev. Czok said a few words to the students and told them that some many years ago he too, was sitting in this church during school masses, because he is the alumni of the St. Stanislaus Kostka School, class of 51. Among the concelebrating priest there was another alumni od St. Stans’s, Rev. Barnabas Gorski ofm, who celebrated 50th anniversary of ordination this year. Father Barnabas works as missionary priest in western Africa. Other concelebrating priests were: Rev. Joseph Szpilski CM, Rev, Jan Urbaniak CM, Rev. Jaroslaw Lawrenz CM,  Rev, Jan Szylar CM – all from St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish in Greenpoint.

Bishop Caggiano praised children for the proper behavior during Mass and thanked the school choir under the direction of our organist Malgorzata Staniszewska for the music and songs. During the mass children performed the readings, and brought gifts to the altar.

Our commitment to one another, to the education of our children and to the well being of the community was reflected in this Mass. Students were delighted to see many family members accompany them at Mass, as well as some parishioners of the neighborhood.

The day before the whole school participated in the penance service with the opportunity for individual confession.
