September 27 is the feast of St. Vincent de Paul. St. Vincent is the founder of the Congregation of the Mission – the Vincentian community of priests to which all priests assigned to this parish belong. It is also closing of the Vincentian year.
On September 27th, the St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish will be offering a special Mass in Polish in thanksgiving to God for St. Vincent at 9am followed by special blessing and veneration of his relics. There will also be a presentation of the English movie called “St. Vincent de Paul – Charity’s Saint” (English version) at 6pm followed by the Mass in English at 7pm with special benediction and veneration of his relics.
St. Vincent de Paul carried out his ministry among the people of God in the 17th century in France. In his many charitable endeavors, St. Vincent modeled a leadership quality that called forth the gifts of all; clergy, religious and laity, to be the face of Christ to the world. Many church and lay organizations have established their foundation based on the life of St. Vincent. As Catholics, this model is a perfect fit for us as a faith community, in fulfilling our baptismal promises, to take up the mission of Jesus to the world.
We invite all the members of the St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish community to join together to examine our call to be of service to all of God’s people. Starting today let us pray together the Novena to St. Vincent de Paul. We will do it as a community after each Mass this week. Do it also privately at home.
Novena to St. Vincent de Paul
O Glorious Saint Vincent de Paul, the mention of your name suggests a litany of your virtues: humility, zeal, mercy, self-sacrifice. It also recalls your many foundations: Works of Mercy, Congregations, Societies. The Church gratefully remembers your promotion of the priesthood. Inspire all Charitable Workers, especially those who minister, to both the spiritually and the materially poor. O Lord, give us the grace that You bestowed upon, your servant St. Vincent de Paul, to relinquish the temptation of material things, in our holy effort to minister to the poor. Amen.
