The Parish of St. Stanislaus Kostka gives thanks to the Lord for the grace of the beatification of Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko, a wonderful person, faithful priest, zealous pastor, an honest son of his Homeland, who gave his life for faith, truth and freedom.
We are grateful to God and for that, give thanks for the goodness of the Archdiocese of Warsaw and to Divine Providence for the relics of Blessed Father Jerzy that are in our possession. On Sunday, October 17 we had a solemn introduction of the relics to our Church, with Venerable Bishop Wojciech Polak concelebrating Mass at 11:30 am. The relics were placed in a new granite reliquary, which was also blessed by the Bishop.
We began our humble spiritual preparation for this day on Friday, October 15th. Mass was celebrated by Fr. Joseph Szpilski. During the Mass, a youth choir from the Catholic parish of St. James in Masholte, Germany sang. After praying the Rosary, the youth choir gave a one hour concert dedicated to Father Jerzy Popiełuszko. The songs were sung in German, English, and Latin. Solo songs were also performed. The choir began the concert singing “Constant Anxiety in the World,” and with the help of Ms. Margaret, the parish organist, sang in Polish. The concert ended with a musical composition of Frederic Chopin and an encore of Gaude Mater Polonia (Rejoice, oh Mother Poland) was sung.
The concert was well received. I must admit, the youth sang so beautifully, the song arrangements were excellent, and the voices were preconceived. The youth announced all the songs in English, explaining the content. The choir is lead by Mr. Paul Leenen, director of music at the parish of St. Jacob in Mastholte, Germany.
