Blessed Jerzy Popieluszko relics

Special moments are approaching for our parish when we will have the opportunity to witness the ceremonial welcoming of the first class relics of the Blessed Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko.  This will take place on Sunday, October 17, 2010 during a special Mass of thanksgiving at 11:30 AM celebrated by His Excellency Bishop Wojciech Polak from Gniezno, Poland.  The relics will be displayed in a new reliquary created by Mr. Stanisław Lutostanski.     The head from the monument of Fr. Popieluszko will be incorporated into this extraordinary reliquary made of black granite created by this artist.  As we all remember, a few days after its unveiling,  the head was mysteriously broken off the monument of Fr. Jerzy which was standing on Nassau Avenue.  This severed head from the monument, in a new reliquary, will serve as a twofold reminder of this Martyr for his faith and patriotism.  This moment will precede our simple preparation, spiritual and prayerful, for the events in the program printed below.  We encourage participation in these devotions.
Friday and Saturday evenings will be dedicated to Fr. Jerzy.  On Friday after prayers, a youth choir from the St. Jacob (James) Parish in Mastholte, Germany, where a friend of mine who was ordained with me works as a pastor of the parsih.  Their first performance was in Poland at the grave of Fr. Popieluszko.  They will also sing on Sunday during the 11:30am Liturgy.
On Saturday, after the evening Mass there will be a pantomime presented by our youth about  Fr. Popieluszko, and then there will be a night adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
The Sunday celebrations will begin at the monument of Fr. Jerzy on Nassau and Bedford Avenues, and then there will be a ceremonial procession of everyone to a Mass in our church.  In the evening at 5:30pm we will show a beautiful film about Fr. Jerzy entitled “Popiełuszko”.  Again, we encourage everyone to participate in these celebrations.
