Parish Picnic 2015

The annual St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish Picnic in Greenpoint was held on Sunday, September 13, 2015. The morning of the big event started with the setting of the tables and blowing up balloons to make the event more festive as the aroma of delectable foods and brewed coffee filled the air. The closed street, the auditorium and the parking lot of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy began to fill-up as Sunday Masses concluded. The closed section of Newel Street was lined with inflatable amusements and other playground fun for children, which included a mechanical bull. The variety of fun and delights for children included an artist painting kids faces with flowers, butterflies, and ladybugs. Children had the opportunity to take home inflatable balloons that Polish boy scouts was able to turn into animals, swords, flowers as well as the crown he had on his head. Some children had abandoned the above amusements to partake in the lively music provided by DJ in the auditorium.

Adults enjoyed the weather as they sat at the tables in the parking lot and consumed the tasty Polish -American cuisine which included: hunters stew (bigos), stuffed cabbage, pierogis, grilled Polish sausage, and many other specialties. American standards were also available: hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie and chicken-burgers and assorted condiments, which included french fries, onion rings, etc. Dessert offered a variety of freshly baked home-made cakes and super-tasty ice cream from a small family business. Finally, you could wash all this down with an assortment of beverages.
During the picnic, children from the Krakowianki I Gorale, our parish Fold Group performed for the crowd dancing traditional folk dances and with grace and professionalism. Children from the Jan Młynek fencing school gave a wonderful presentation of their skills.
As the picnic began to wrap up the raffle drawing began. Thanks to our parishioners and friends over40 prizes were raffled off. Then we have the main lottery with money prizes.
Based on the overwhelming response from our parish community and our neighbors, the picnic was a tremendous success despite our Parish’s limited facilities. Since the weather was beautiful, the picnic turned into standing room only. Fortunately, the tasty food, refreshing drinks and lively entertainment put a smile on all who attended.

The Special Guest of the Picnic was Artur Dybanowski – The Grand Marshall of the 2015 Pulaski Parade who came to invite Polonia to participate in the Parade on October 4th on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.

As was announced, the revenue from the event is designated to assist in defraying the cost of installing the air conditioning system in our church.
In conclusion, we would like to thank all our sponsors and donors. While a special thanks goes out to those individuals and families who volunteered to work at the picnic, because without their assistance, efforts, generosity and strength, there would be no picnic. Selfless charity is the most precious gift of all- when people are willing to work and sacrifice for the good of others.
