Earthquake in Greenpoint

eq1As you know, on Tuesday afternoon, a magnitude 5.8 earthquake stroke the East Coast – the biggest in 67 years. The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake took place just before 2 p.m. and was centered in Mineral, Virginia — approximately 316 miles from New York. Not much happened in Greenpoint but bricks fell from a chimney at a building in the Red Hook houses in Brooklyn.  Here, at St. Stanislaus Kostka, Fr. Jan sudenly observed that his set of floor stereo speakers is bouncing from side to side in his room and a telephone pole outside the rectory is lightly trembling. Father Henry’s chair moved from left to right a few times and … it was it.  No injuries were reported at the Rectory  Smile       The quake caused no cracks in the church, thanks be to God. Yes, we can say that we survived the earthquake. We have to get prepared the hurricane Irene, which is coming toward us.
