All Souls Day

The feast of All Souls reminds us that no human life is perfect, not even the Christian life. However, God loves us even when we are not perfect, and that the love of God does not abandon the souls of our departed brothers and sisters in the faith even when they did not measure up to the ideals of Christian perfection. The Church teaches that the souls which, on departing from the body, “are not perfectly cleansed from venial sins, or have not fully atoned for past transgressions, are debarred from the Beatific Vision, and that the faithful on earth can help them by prayers, almsdeeds and especially by the sacrifice of the Mass”.  Someone wrote: Purgatory is a part of heaven, it is the remedial place for heaven-bound souls. Souls who go to purgatory are those who have been judged worthy of heaven, but they still need some purification because, according to Revelation 21:27, “nothing unclean shall enter it (heaven)”.
