In response to a request of Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens, the SSKCA “Sharing Smiles Klub” and the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy, together with the St. Stan’s Parish and the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, provided for a letter-writing campaign, aimed at the State Legislature to renew and strengthen stabilized rent laws and affordable housing. This legislation was left out of the State budget, set to expire on June 15, 2011. These laws are crucial for the city’s more than 1,000,000 rent stabilized units to remain affordable.
During intermission of a production honoring the victims of 9-11 on Friday, May 20, at St. Stan’s school hall, students from the SSK and Sodality encouraged parents and patrons to sign individual letters to Gov. Cuomo, who supports the renewal of New York rent laws, so that he in turn would have people power to present to the State Legislature.
In 1997, Pope John Paul II called for consecrated life to be promoted throughout the universal Church. He declared February 2, the feast of the Presentation of the Lord, to be observed as World Day for Consecrated Life. In the United States, when February 2 is not on a Sunday, we celebrate on the Sunday after the Presentation. The celebration of World Day for Consecrated Life invites all the Church to reflect on the role of Consecrated Life within the Christian community. Those who choose to live a consecrated life do so for the sake of the gospel. Continue reading World Day for Consecrated Life

They used to administer the parochial school, they served as teachers and leaders in the school and in the parish for many years. They still are involved in the life of the parish by helping with the school, teaching the CCD program, leading children in prayers, participating in spiritual programs and devotions. We would like to tell you more about this religious community.
Just a few days ago the Sisters had celebrated a sad but also a powerful commemoration. During the Second World War (1939 – 1945) people living on Polish soil were persecuted for their national identity and faith. Continue reading Anniversary of Martyrdom
